The following hikes require pre-registration. This program is free; however you must pay the

Critter Hike  
Summer is a wonderful time of year to explore the various habitats on Pikes Peak. May 23, 
Join a ranger on an interesting and fun hike along the contour of Crystal Reservoir. June 13, 27,
This is a great family experience. Observe the busy bluebirds searching for their July 11, 25, 
favorite nesting areas, migratory waterfowl taking a dip in Crystal Lake and August 15, 29,
blooming wildflowers that are brightening up our forests and fields. Because you will September 5
be hiking at just under 9,400 ft. in elevation, this is a moderately strenuous 3-4 mile  
hike and 2 to 3 hrs. in duration. Pack a lunch and picnic with a ranger in the woods.      
Bear Aware Nature Hike  
Beware of 'Close Encounters'-All the woodland residents of Pikes Peak have shaken May 30,  
out of their slumbering stages and are wandering around in full force with a new June 6, 20,
generation of young…in particular, our black bears! Join us on our 'bear walk' to  July 4, 18, 
learn more about our biggest predators of the forest and what signs to look for. August 8, 22,
Hands-on display of items before the hike includes a Black Bear pelt, bear scat and September 12
other mammal scat. This a moderately strenuous 4 mile hike at just under 9,400 ft.

Fall Colors Hike  
Meet at Crystal to begin a hike where you will see all the colors of the fall. The September 19, 26,
Aspens mixed with the pines make for a striking landscape and you will be able to  October 3, 10, 17, 24
experience it up close.   
Self Guided Hikes   
Self guided hikes at Crystal Reservoir are always available. The brochure is on our Anytime during open hours
website and also at the trailhead. Pop in at the visitor center for directions to the trail.  
This hike only takes 15 to 20 minutes. This is a great way to stop and smell the  
Ponderosas!
